Discussion on the chronology of David Rohl According to the British Egyptologist David Rohl the Egyptian chronology before 664 B.C. is incorrect. Rohl has proposed an alternative chronology by which all dates of the history of the Ancient Near East are moved forward c. 250-350 years. The December 1999 issue of BGA, the Dutch journal 'Bijbel, Geschiedenis en Archeologie'(translated title: Bible, History and Archaeology) appeared with a comprehensive article against the proposed new chronology. An English version of the article can be found on this web-site under the title 'Pharaohs and the Bible. David Rohl's chronology untenable'. P.G. van der Veen, a colleague of Rohl's, replied with the article 'Is Rohl's Chronology inaccurate? A reply to BGA'. R.M. Porter, another supporter of Rohl's theory, responded with the article 'Did the Philistines settle in Canaan around 1200 BC? J.G. van der Land replied with the article 'Rohl's New Chronology does not accommodate the Philistines'. A very convincing article by J.G. van der Land, named 'Conclusive evidence against Rohl's proposed New Chronology',concludes the series.
